Quality control for spirometry in large epidemiologic studies: "breathing quality" into our work.
نویسنده
چکیده
Spirometry is a time-honored, invaluable measurement for assessing lung function in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as well as for studying populations with COPD in epidemiologic studies.1,2 Indeed, the prognostic value of spirometry has been appreciated since the 1960s,3 and forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1) was more recently included in more comprehensive, multivariate prognostic indices for COPD (eg, the BODE index [body mass index, airflow obstruction, dyspnea, and exercise capacity]4). Also, spirometry has been an early, longstanding, and key measurement in assessing the natural history of lung function in population studies. For example, in 1977 Fletcher and Peto studied FEV1 changes in London transit workers to determine the impact of cigarette smoking on lung function.5

Respiratory rehabilitation: a physiotherapy approach to the control of asthma symptoms and anxiety
OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study were to verify the degree of anxiety, respiratory distress, and health-related quality of life in a group of asthmatic patients who have experienced previous panic attacks. Additionally, we evaluated if a respiratory physiotherapy program (breathing retraining) improved both asthma and panic disorder symptoms, resulting in an improvement in the health-rel...
متن کاملThe efficacy of diaphragmatic breathing practice on respiratory function, balance, and quality of life in elderly women
Introduction: Introduction: The respiratory system affects the motor control and stability of the body, especially in the elderly. The present study aimed to determine the effect of diaphragmatic breathing practice on respiratory function, balance, and quality of life in elderly women. Materials and Methods: Forty elderly women with a mean age of 72.40 years participated in this study voluntari...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Correlation Between Body Mass Index and the Severity of Asthma in Recently Diagnosed Patients
Introduction: Asthma and obesity are among diseases that cause several problems and impair quality of life. The concurrence of these diseases, changes in the respiratory physiology, changes associated with obesity and limited activity associated with asthma may cause an interaction between the two conditions. Materials and Methods: We studied the epidemiologic characteristics of all recentl...
متن کاملA Literature Review on the Fuzzy Control Chart; Classifications & Analysis
Quality control plays an important role in increasing the product quality. Fuzzy control charts are more sensitive than Shewhart control chart. Hence, the correct use of fuzzy control chart leads to producing better-quality products. This area is complex because it involves a large scope of industries, and information is not well organized. In this research, we provide a literature review of th...
